Thanks to smooth sloping sandy beach, delicious seafood, endless hills and mountains and blue sea water, it is an ideal destination for tourists coming to Hoi An and Da Nang.</p>

<h2>Location and history</h2>
<p>The Cham Islands is home to 8 small islands, 20 kilometres off the coast from <a href="/hoi-an-ancient-town.html">Hoi An Ancient Town</a> in Quang Nam Province. All island are called with simple names including Hòn Lao (Pearl), Hòn Dài (long), Hòn Mồ (tomb), Hòn Khô mẹ, Hòn Khô con (dry), Hòn Lá (leaf), Hòn Tai (ear) and Hòn Ông (east wind).</p>

<h3>Sunrise in Cham Island</h3>
<p>Originally, Cham Island was the first choice of Cham people, who came from Indonesia, when they set foot in the Central Vietnam. They dug wells and terraces which are still used today. From 4th to 14th century, the island became one of the main port of Champa Kingdom. However, the Kingdom ended after the Vietnamese moved into Central Vietnam at the 15th Century. After Hoi An was a successful port on the ‘silk route’ at the 17th century, Cu Lao Cham continued to thrive as an important sea port marked a strong Vietnamese identity from 18<sup>th</sup> Century to 20<sup>th</sup> Century. Because of its important role, the island was under strict military supervision and was forbidden area. Nowadays, all visitors are permitted to visit, even overnight on this land.</p>
<h2>Cham Island beaches</h2>
<p>The whole island has seven beaches stretching from the Northwest to the Southeast:</p>
<h3>Bac Beach:</h3>
<p>Situated in the North of Cham Island, there are many natural caves, but few people come. As the result, this beach is perfect spot for swimming, fishing and sightseeing on boats, not diving and snorkeling.</p>

<h3>Ong Beach:</h3>
<p>It is located near Bai Lang beach, next to the pier. This is the most crowded beach on Cham Island. There are many restaurants for tourists.</p>

<p>It is the main beach of Cham Islands with main harbour where the public supply boat docks and concentrates population.</p>
<h3>Xep Beach:</h3>
<p>This beach hasn’t been exploited for tourism. Thus, it is still quiet.</p>

<p>It currently is the most impressive beach with the most beautiful white sand on Hon Lao Island</p>

<p>You are hard to swim at this beach because many boats anchor. You should try to eat seafood here because it is very fresh.</p>
<h2><strong>What to do in Cham Island</strong></h2>
<p>The Cham islands topography is mostly mountainous, without rivers. There are 8 small islands, but only Hon Lao is inhabited. The other seven ones are rocky, wooded spots. Almost activities are taken place on this island. The island have a rich underwater world with 300 different coral species. The islands are officially protected as a marine park. <p>Cham ancient well in Cam commune (Xom Cam) was about 200 years old with typical features of other Cham wells. It is still used for the daily activities of local people.</p>
<h3><em>Hai Tang Pagoda (Chùa Hải Tạng):</em></h3>
<p>Built in 1758 close to the western foothills of Hon Lao Island, Hai Tang Pagoda is a religious structure worship Buddha, where local people and traders pray for their successful business. Visitors can see a red painted sign with gold letters, a picture and a big bell in the inside.</p>

<h3><em>Tan Hiep market:</em></h3>
<p>Called as Cu Lao Cham Market, Tan Hiep market is a place you can’t skip. Located right at the dock area, visits can find the daily needed items in the inside and fish and souvenirs in the outside part. Don’t forget to buy “mực một nắng” (dried squids), which the most famous specialty in Cham Island for their family and friends as a gift. , you can bargain when shopping but just a little bit.</p>
<h2><strong>What is the best time to visit Cham Island:</strong></h2>
<p>Compare to the mainland, Cham island climate is cooler with the temperature of  21oC – 22oC in winter and 28oC -29oC in summer.</p>
<p>The appropriate time to visit Cham Island is from March to August. During this time, the water is clear, the sea is calm and sunshine all day. It is the good weather for swimming, snorkelling, diving and camping. Except for these months, you will meet  heavy rains and strong winds.</p>
<p>If you want to combine your trip with a visit to Hoi An ancient town, you should go in the full moon day of every lunar month. You will also have a chance to take part in some some festivals in Hoi An such as Cau Ngu festival (3th and 4<sup>th</sup> of April of lunar calendar) or Gio To Nghe Yen (Anniversary of a death of Yen field at 9<sup>th</sup> and 10<sup>th</sup> of March of the lunar calendar).</p>

<h2><strong>Overview of My Son Sanctuary</strong></h2>
<p>My Son Holly land location is near the Duy Phu village, in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam Province, central of Vietnam. It is one of the foremost and important heritage sites of this nature in Vietnam.</p>
<p>My Son is the complex of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples constructed between 4<sup>th</sup> and 13<sup>th</sup> century by the Kings of Champa.  These temples are in the valley roughly two kilometres wide, surrounding by two mountain ranges.  King of Champa built these temples to devote to Hindu gods Shiva, who is the creator, destroyer and preserver of Chams people. The valley of My Son is the place to organize religious ceremony of Champa kings. As well as a burial place for Cham royalty and national heroes.</p>

<p>The first temple was made by wood during 4<sup>th</sup> century. However, it was fired so the next Kings decided to build others with red bricks and continuously developed until 13<sup>th</sup> century.</p>
<p>After the total disappearance of Champ dynasty when Emperor Minh Mang annexed it to Vietnam. The sanctuary was forgetful for a long time. In 1898, a Frenchman rediscovered and restored it. However, almost complex of My Son Sanctuary was damaged in the most recent American war by bombing. Only some impressive decoration still exist: snakes, elephants, scenes of battles, and priests.</p>
<h2><strong>Discover My Son Hoi An</strong></h2>
<p>Not too many activities in My Son Holly Land. Visiting My Son, you will have chance to admire its spectacular architecture, enjoy local performance or take photos only.</p>
<h3><strong><em>Explore architecture of My Son Sanctuary</em></strong></h3>
<p>With a long history of development, My Son Sanctuary Complex is the religious and cultural center of historical Champa. Hence, it has impressive works of art. Most of the architectural styles of Cham tower-temples are present in My Son and is identification of the Cham architectural style. The population sanctuary in My Son is unique and rare and one the best examples of Hindu architecture in Southeast Asia. Its architecture is combination between Malaysian, Arabian, Indonesian, and Indian model. Indian architecture mostly appear in statue carved in temples.</p>

<p>My Son Holly Land consists of 8 groups of temples and more than 70 architectural works. Surrounding of each group is thick walls of brick. It has main temple in the center and small temples or tombs around. The temples of complex are so simple with bigger roof than foundation, dark interior and no windows in worship places. Peoples said that it is good condition for shamans to communicate with gods</p>
<p>The temples and towers connect to each other with complicated red brick design, which create unique decoration. The main material of Champ towers is brick but people cannot explain for how to make brick together as well as construction methods until now.</p>
<h3><strong><em>Watch local performance</em></strong></h3>
<p>Sometime, visitors might surprise dance and music performance at My Son Sanctuary. If you are lucky, you will have an opportunity to enjoy local people, who wear unique customs and sing songs with traditional instrumental accompaniment. Just about 40 km from Hoian so the easiest and most comfortable way is to rent or hire a car or motorbike. <p>The ticket of My Son Holly Land is 150,000 VND (~ 7 usd) for foreigners. It opens every day from 6:30am to 5pm. Near the ticker office is Champa Museum, showing many of the artifacts and the history of the site. You should visit museum before temples because it closes early so you may not be able to see on the way out. Then, you pass through Champa-style Bridge to explore ruins.</p>
<h3><strong><em>Getting around My Son</em></strong></h3>
<p>After visiting My Son Sanctuary, you have one more option to come back to <a href="https://asiagreattours.com/hoi-an-travel-blog">Hoian</a>. Instead of bus, car, you can transfer back to Hoian by motorized boat. Along the Thu Bon River, you can stop in Kim Bong Village to see artisans work on furniture and houses, and then be back to Hoian. Besides, you can drive to Bang An Tower- very well-preserved Champa tower in Hoian area. Local people still use this temple for worship today. You can visit Tra Kieu village- ancient capital of Champa, just be far 10 km from My Son Complex.</p>

<p>Hoi An is old town and well-known trading port of Southeast Asian dating between 15<sup>th</sup> and 19<sup>th</sup> century. It lies on the bank of Thu Bon River in the center of Quang Nam province, far Da Nang about 30 km to the south. <p>Cham dynasty firstly settled Hoi An. While My Son was spiritual capital, Hoi An was commercial capital of Chams’ people. Cham dominated Hoi An rules the trade in spices and silks. Until Cham to Nguyen dynasty in 16th and 17th century, Hoi An name was Hoi Pho (Seaside Town) at which time, was under Nguyen dynasty and became the most important port in Southeast Asia. <p>Currently, there are three famous Assembly Hall in Hoi An Ancient Town. Those are Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, Trieu Chau Assembly Hall and Cantonese Assembly Hall. Chinese people built all assembly halls so it brings the fundamental of Chinese architecture.</p>
